SUMMARY:Poetry Reading by Patrice Pinette
DESCRIPTION:HAPPINESS\, A STRANGE BIRD: New Hampshire poet Patrice Pinette to read from her new collection at Jaffrey Civic Center \nLife is a spell so exquisite that everything conspires to break it. – Emily Dickinson \nJaffrey\, New Hampshire – September 6\, 2025 – Jaffrey Civic Center is pleased to announce a poetry reading by Patrice Pinette\, on September 6 at 5:00. Patrice will share selections from her book HAPPINESS\, A STRANGE BIRD\, which explores our quest for happiness. While the poems explore such themes as intimacy and distance\, the colorful threads that bind us to the world and each other\, they also present happiness as an awakening\, arising from within rather than circumstance. \nSourcing happiness in the inner life\, with spacious attention and an affinity for nature and contemplation\, links Patrice’s poetry to the gallery exhibit\, “Born of Silence\,” curated by Jaffrey artist Joan Hanley. \nHosting Patrice Pinette offers the community an opportunity to experience the engaged voice of the poet bringing poems to life and celebrating the power of art and language to transform our experience. The reading will include a Q&A session and book signing. The event is free and all are welcome. \nOn Happiness\, a Strange Bird \nby Patrice Pinette \n“Patrice Pinette is a born poet\, a 24/7 poet who is always seeing through the literal and obvious to underlying patterns and echoes. To this layered way of perceiving\, she adds a rich appreciation for words\, using them freshly because she appreciates how they work at many subtle levels at once.  Patrice adds a heart intelligence\, a poet’s compassion\, and a facility in evoking beauty. This collection of poems could teach you how to extend the range of your daily experience of life.” \nThomas Moore \nAuthor of Care of the Soul \nElemental as rain\, as magnolias\, as love\, the color blue\, or happiness\, these poems transport us as we watch them soar\, line by line “dazzling the ordinary.” \nAlice B Fogel\, New Hampshire Poet Laureate Emerita \nAuthor of Falsework \nPatrice Pinette received her MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. In the Connections Program of New Hampshire Humanities\, she facilitates book discussions with adult learners of English from all over the world. She also leads poetry workshops in the Transdisciplinary Studies in Healing Education program at Antioch University New England. Patrice’s poems have appeared in literary journals and anthologies including Pensive: A Global Journal of Spirituality & the Arts\, Touchstone Journal\, Poetica Magazine\, Poet Showcase: An Anthology of New Hampshire Poets\, Writing the Land; Allegro Poetry Journal\, Hampden-Sydney Poetry Review\, and elsewhere. Her collection of poems\, Happiness\, a Strange bird\, is published by Bee Monk Press\, 2025.

SUMMARY:Cunningham & Auditorium: Annual Fall Show
DESCRIPTION:Click to View Exhibition Art \nThe Jaffrey Civic Center is very excited to present our Annual Fall Show. This exhibition will run September 26– November 1. There will be an opening reception on Friday\, September 26 from 5 – 7 pm with light refreshments\, drinks\, and a chance to meet and converse with the artists! \nThis exhibition gathers diverse artistic voices\, each offering a unique interpretation of impermanence. Some works may capture the delicate beauty of nature’s transitions\, while others may explore the metaphorical “seasons” of human life—moments of growth\, change\, loss\, and renewal. Together\, these interpretations remind us that impermanence is both inevitable and essential: it is what gives meaning to beauty\, poignancy to memory\, and vitality to the present moment. Visitors are encouraged to look closely and consider how each piece connects to the theme\, discovering their own interpretations along the way. \nThe theme ‘Interpretations of a Season’s Impermanence’ invites artists and viewers to reflect on the fleeting\, ever-changing nature of time. Just as the seasons move in cycles—blossoms give way to fruit\, leaves turn and fall\, snow melts into spring—our own experiences\, emotions\, and perspectives shift and transform. \nArtists: Phil Bean\, Martha Behrens-Temple\, Carole A. Centre\, Nancy C. Christopher\, Deb DeCicco\, Soosen Dunholter\, Vicdan Sanli Elagoz\, Ann Falby\, Rebecca Fredrickson\, Tara Greavs\, Betsy Holmes\, Susanne Larkham\, Summer Langille\, Norma Morrow\, Olha Necheporenko\, Scott Niemi\, Andrew Niemi\, Jonathan Niemi\, Lorna Perkins\, Sophie Sanders\, Timothy Schloemer\, Charles Schifferdecker\, Linda Singer\, Vera Sulima\, Victoria Tkaczevski\, William Turner\, and Mary Woolverton.

SUMMARY:Display Cases: Roz Park "A Collection of Work"
DESCRIPTION:The Jaffrey Civic Center is very excited to share with the public ‘A Collection of Work’ by Roz Park. \nThis exhibition will run September 26– November 1. \nThere will be an opening reception on Friday\, September 26 from 5 – 7 pm with light refreshments\, drinks\, and a chance to meet and converse with the artist! \nRoz’s work transcends object’s innate qualities by making unexpected combinations that are nothing short of Poetry. \nRoz Park lives in an upstairs apartment that she also uses as her studio. “I like living closely with the things that I make and collect. My environment determines the size of what I can do\, I might make large assemblages living in a large space!” Living in N.YC. in the 70’s and 80’s as a young person\, was the education that Park had been looking for\, coming from a small New England town. Assemblage and collage\, but also painting\, whatever the materials\, hopefully reveals something that is worth sharing. For her\, beauty is an antidote to all that is difficult. Park says\, “I like the photographer Robert Adams’ comment\, “Even though art is always imperfect\, successful art rediscovers beauty for us.”
