At the first class I will cover the basics of pastels: Soft pastels, different brands, soft pastels vs hard pastels, as well as pan pastels and pastel pencils. Next, I will speak about different pastel papers and surfaces. I will then do a brief 10-minute demonstration. The remaining class time will be spent drawing or transferring the subject matter onto the black sanded paper then blocking in the first layer of pastel.
The remaining three classes will consist of a half-hour demonstration followed by painting time and teacher guidance.
A materials list will be supplied along with a photo reference that I will be using for my demonstration. (Above photo) You may follow along with me or bring your own photo reference. (Note: if my reference photo is used, you may give away your painting but it cannot be for sale as it is my composition and reference material.) Print-out, laptop, or tablets may be used.
