TUESDAY SESSION: November 4, 11, 18
12:00 – 3:00 pm
All levels and beginners are welcome!
Each class will consist of a half-hour demonstration followed by painting time and teacher guidance. We will discuss composition, underpainting techniques (dry vs wet), and the use of different papers to achieve the best result.
In this session we will explore some mixed media underpainting. Focus will be on rendering texture, using complimentary colors, and studying composition. If you have sanded pastel paper or Clairfontaine Pastel Mat please bring it to class. Otherwise, you can purchase it from me for $5/sheet. Bring what soft pastels that you have. There will be extra pastels for you to borrow/use during class.

Marylise Reilly-Fajal was born in the States but raised in France. She lived in Paris and went to several art schools. She became an International artist in 1985, going to Damascus, Syria, Lisbon, Portugal, Geneva, Zurich, Basel in Switzerland from 1987 to 1999 on one woman shows. She has also participated in multiple group shows in Europe and the US. She has taught art in the Sharon Art School, is an art certified Educator (K-12) and looks forward to teaching you the essentials of drawing, watercolors and oil painting.
Each class will consist of a half-hour demonstration followed by drawing time and teacher guidance. We will learn how to make progress with the quality of line, texture, value, highlights and shading, space and perspective, composition. We will try different tools, techniques and use of different papers for you to find the most rewarding effects, and find your own style in drawing technique and expression.
There will be a real composition (flowers, pots, fruit, musical instruments, etc) for you to draw, or you can bring 1 or 2 reference photos. I do recommend working from real life. Materials list will be provided.

Saturday, November 22 10:30 – 4:00 pm
Create block print designs and repeating patterns to make unique, one-of-a-kind textiles. Carve block stamps, play with color and composition, and print directly onto a tea towel. For both beginners and experienced printers, we will learn the basics of designing in repeat and experiment with patterns. Come with an idea for your block and go home with a block and a printed tea towel. All materials are provided, and please bring a bag lunch. All materials included!
